The original score (1969) consists of 13 lines of 13 measures (169 measures). The measures are in real time (second durations, not time signatures or meters.) This 13X13 grid does not relate to the form of Sequenza VII.
Each line's sequence of 13 measures: 3", 2.7", 2", 2", 2", 2", 1.8", 1.5", 1.3", 1.3", 1", 1", 1"
The duration of each line's measures totals 22.6 seconds.
The actual duration of each line is 22.6" plus the duration of the fermatas, if any, in the line. (e.g. Line 2 contains one 6" fermata, therefore it's actual duration is 22.6" + 6" = 28.6")
The "Supplementary Edition by Jacqueline Leclair" (2000) consists of the same 13 lines of 13 measures. The piece is rewritten in traditional rhythmic notation (time signatures). It reflects the original exactly. The purpose of the "supplementary edition" is to make Sequenza VII's precise rhythm and proportions understandable, so that the oboist can play with very good rhythmic accuracy; because the proportions of Sequenza VII, both microcosmic and macrocosmic, are crucial for understanding the piece.
Each line's sequence of 13 mm: 3/4, 11/16, 2/4, 2/4, 2/4, 2/4, 7/16, 3/8, 4/trip-eighths , 4/ trip-eighths , 1/4, 1/4, 1/4 This sequence corresponds virtually 100% to the original's real time measures. Hence, the duration of each line of the "Supplementary Edition" is exactly the same as the corresponding line of the original.
